Car Safety & Responsibility
Accident…

 |
Stay where you are at. |
 |
If it is a little
“fender bender”, you may pull into the nearest
parking lot or to the side of the road. |
 |
If you are hurt, don’t
move until the paramedics arrive. |
 |
If there are
witnesses, try and get their names and numbers if
they want to leave before the police arrive. |
 |
No matter whose fault
it is, remain calm and be careful when confronted by
the other driver. |
 |
Have your license,
registration and insurance card ready – KNOW YOUR
SOCIAL SECURITY #. |
 |
If you get into a
fender bender and no police are involved, YOU NEED
TO EXCHANGE EACH OTHERS CAR INSURANCE INFORMATION
AND GET THEIR NAME, NUMBER AND DRIVER’S LICENSE
INFORMATION. |
 |
Ask the investigating
officer where you can obtain a copy of the police
report. |
 |
If necessary, have the
car towed to a repair shop. |
 |
Make notes. Keep a pad
and pencil in your glove compartment. |
 |
If you hit an
unattended vehicle or object, try to find the owner.
If you can't, leave a note containing your name,
address and phone number. Record the details of the
accident. |

Car Insurance

Auto insurance provides property, liability and medical
coverage:
-
Property coverage pays for
damage to or theft of your car.
-
Liability coverage pays
for your legal responsibility to others.
-
Medical coverage pays for
the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes
lost wages and funeral expenses.
Do I need insurance to rent a
car?
When renting a car, you need insurance. If you have adequate
insurance on your own car, including collision and
comprehensive, this may be enough.
Before you rent a car:
1. Contact your insurance company.
Find out how much coverage you have on your own car. In most
cases, the coverage and deductibles you have on your personal
auto policy would apply to a rental car, providing it's used for
pleasure and not business. If you don't have comprehensive and
collision coverage on your own car, you will not be covered if
your rental car is stolen or if it is damaged in an accident.
